A safari adventure is a unique experience, creating memories for life. It’s no surprise that these adventures are hugely popular, with demand rising steadily every year.

Most people travel to Africa for safaris, with the most popular destinations being  Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa. The main attraction is Africa’s Big Five – the lion, rhino, elephant, leopard and buffalo.

Safaris are suitable for all ages, including families. However, they are an increasingly popular holiday choice for people aged over 50, due to:

1. Having more time to travel, spending longer on safari or combining a safari with another destination. We’d love to create the perfect blend for you. This is especially popular in South Africa. Why not combine a safari with some wine tasting, a contrasting stay in Cape Town or, continuing with the wildlife theme, see penguins and humpback whales off the Western Cape? Alternatively, combine your safari with a trip to the ‘rooftop of Africa’ Mount Kilimanjaro. You don’t need climbing experience or equipment to reach the summit.
2. Accommodation to suit, from tents to luxury lodges – choose the level of comfort you’ll enjoy! Safaris can be a ‘back to basics’ experience … or you can sleep in a four-poster bed!
3. Varied fitness options – some amazing treks are available with Botswana offering great wilderness experiences, for example. Some people prefer the relative comfort of a four-wheel drive as they take in the amazing sights of wildlife. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can enjoy hot-air balloon rides, treks on horseback or bushwalks in Kenya. How would you like to explore?
4. Knowing what’s important. There are so many choices available! People over 50 tend to have a good idea of what they want from their safari – maybe sustainability is important, or the chance to get involved with the wildlife, or even a round of two of golf during your holiday!
